I wanted to take this moment to wish you a special Valentine’s Day. Whether you are in a relationship or not, I hope you will take this time to allow yourself to give and receive love.
Originating in the 14th century Valentine’s Day truly started to transform itself in 18th century. During that period it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines“). In Europe, Saint Valentine’s Keys are given to lovers “as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart”.
It’s not all about the “WOW” factor or the gifts!
A recent study out of Carnegie Mellon University says romantic things like red roses, a box of chocolates or even diamond jewelry are not necessarily the best gifts to give. Research suggests that one of the best things you can give to the one you love is to give them what they want.
In my opinion, the best thing you can do (if you have not done it yet) is to ask before you give. This will make it much more personal and special to the one you love. Give them what they want, give them something useful or a great experience.
it’s not always the monetary things that mean the most, it’s the little things you do, such as making a nice romantic candlelight dinner for your loved one, giving them a massage, offer them a day at the spa. Maybe they would love to have a night out, a special diner, a book, see a movie.I know a friend of mine last year who paid for house cleaning services for two months so that he and his wife could have more time with each other.
When in doubt or if you forget to ask at the last minute, use your intuition!
